Cultivate Community and Sustainability in Every City Block
Community Challenges
Communities across New York City face overlapping challenges:
- Employment Gaps: Barriers to work for re-entry populations, veterans, and low-skill workers.
- Underutilized Space: Sidewalks, vacant lots, and community spaces often sit idle.
- Food Insecurity: Limited access to fresh, healthy produce in underserved neighborhoods.
Our Solutions
Box Farms addresses these challenges with a three-tier model:
- Manufacturing: Constructing elevated garden units while employing underserved populations.
- Installation: Deploying BF Units across sidewalks, community gardens, and institutions.
- Programming: Offering therapeutic gardening sessions and training for vulnerable groups.

Box Farm 3-Tier System
We serve those most often left out of green jobs, wellness, and food security. That changes here.
1
Tier One: Manufacturing
Design and construction of elevated 3-foot raised garden beds (Box Farms Units). Partnerships with re-entry and workforce training programs.
2
Tier Two: Installation
Scalable deployment in sidewalks, community gardens, and institutional spaces.
3
Tier Three: Growth & Harvest
Gardening, harvesting, and maintenance sessions for seniors, veterans, disabled groups, and vulnerable populations. Produce donated to shelters, kitchens, and participants. Workforce development and therapeutic engagement.
Unlock Unique Programming and Powerful Outcomes
Each step of the Box Farms process involves dynamic community-based programming:
1) Box Farms Units (BF Units)
Elevated, 3-foot garden beds, handcrafted with wood and corrugated metal.
The BF-Units are portable, durable, and weather-adaptive with drainage and root health design. Deployed on sidewalks, community gardens, and institutional grounds.

2) Workforce Development & Training
Employment for underserved groups: re-entry, veterans, immigrants, and low-skill job seekers. Paid training in carpentry, horticulture, installation, and maintenance. Creates skill-building and career pathways.

3) Community Programming
Gardening and maintenance sessions for seniors, veterans, disabled individuals, and other vulnerable groups. Food harvested is donated to shelters, community kitchens, and program participants. Sessions are therapeutic, educational, and community-strengthening.
